The musical Jesus Christ Superstar (producer Jung Hoe-jin/production Blue Stage) returns. Following the successful 50th anniversary performances from 2022 to 2023, which were met with acclaim from both audiences and critics, Jesus Christ Superstar (hereinafter Superstar) is set to open on November 7, 2024, at the Gwanglim Art Center BBCH Hall. To continue the success of the 50th-anniversary production, Michael Lee and Park Eun-tae have been cast as Jesus, with Han Ji-sang, Yoon Hyung-ryeol, and Baek Hyung-hoon cast as Judas, raising expectations.

First premiered on Broadway in 1971, Superstar stands out especially for its music, showcasing the exceptional collaboration of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. The music, based on classical composition with a strong influence from rock, features powerful rhythms, rich melodies, and grand choruses.

In Korea, the Broadway revival version was first officially licensed and performed in 2004, followed by performances in 2006, 2013, 2015, and 2022. Notably, the 50th-anniversary performance in 2022, directed by first-generation musical producer Seol Do-yoon, who also directed the first licensed performance in 2004, achieved a 93% seat occupancy rate and attracted a total audience of 69,000 in Seoul alone.

To meet the enthusiasm shown by the audience for the 50th-anniversary performance, this new production aims to elevate the scale and energy of Superstar. Actors Michael Lee and Park Eun-tae will reprise their roles as Jesus, showcasing their proven musical prowess, while Han Ji-sang, Yoon Hyung-ryeol, and Baek Hyung-hoon will take on the role of Judas, solidifying their status as "scene stealers." This production will focus on the relationship between Jesus and Judas, enhancing the depth of the story. Superstar, having prepared as a more solid work, will be performed at the Gwanglim Art Center BBCH Hall from November 7, 2024, to January 12, 2025.
