Andrew’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane has taken home a win for Theatre Building of the Year at the 2022 The Stage awards.Following its £60 million refurbishment that began in 2019, this majestic building’s restoration project was put in motion to restore the historic Theatre Royal Drury Lane to its former 1812 glory. The final performance before the restoration was 42nd Street on January 5th 2019, with the theatre now being home to the incredible Frozen The Musical.
The restoration, led by architect Steve Tompkins, has allowed the theatre to utilise the grand cantilevered Wyatt staircases that were lost 100 years ago, as well as adding wider seats, disabled access, a street level access and lots more. Last but not least, the renovations have included The Garden, a beautiful café and bar that ELLE named as one of their favourite eating and drinking spots in London, as well as the Cecil Beaton bar and Grand Saloon.
